Zénauva
Origin of the name Zénauva
The village appears in 1217 as « Chinova ». It is written « Zennauve » in 1755, and « Chenauvaz » remains in use in the 19th century. The old German name is « Schenof ». None of these forms has been explained.[1]
Founding of Zénauva
Zénauva lies at the foot of the Cousimbert, to which a mountain road links it. In the Middle Ages the abbey of Hauterive held property here. The village first belonged to the parish of Ependes, then to that of Praroman from 1644. It has remained rural, with livestock and fodder crops. Zénauva is now a village of the municipality of Le Mouret (merger of 1 January 2003).[1][2]
