Origin of the name Villarsiviriaux

The village appears in 1162 as « Vilar Soveror ». The name is said to come from « villarem superiorem », the « upper Villars ».[1][4]

Founding of Villarsiviriaux

Villarsiviriaux is a compact village on the north-western slope of the Gibloux, below the highest point of Villorsonnens at 1'130 m. Remains of a Roman settlement have been located at La Buchille. In the Middle Ages the abbeys of Hauterive and Humilimont and the Billens, Maggenberg, de Pont and d'Affry families shared rights and property, and lords of Villarsiviriaux are recorded in the 13th century. Part of the parish of Orsonnens, the village got its own in 1869. It lives from livestock and, since the early 20th century, from fruit growing. Villarsiviriaux is now part of the municipality of Villorsonnens (merger of 2001).[1][5]
