Vuarrengel
Origin of the name Vuarrengel
Name origin: « Warrengel » in 1184, « Warengel » and « Warenjel » in 1236. The name is said to be a diminutive of that of Vuarrens, the neighbouring village, formed with the suffix -el; Vuarrens is said to be a name of Burgundian origin, derived from a primitive « Waringos », « at the home of the Waringi » (to be cross-checked). In the Vaud dialect the hamlet is called « Vuarindzî ».
Founding of Vuarrengel
Vuarrengel is not a municipality: it is a hamlet of the municipality of Vuarrens, in the Gros-de-Vaud district, on the Lausanne-Yverdon-les-Bains axis. No founding act is known and the sources consulted do not say who created it; its name, a diminutive of Vuarrens, suggests a secondary settlement of the neighbouring village (to be cross-checked).
