Origin of the name Feschel
First mentioned in 1267 as « Vexli » and « Veselli ». The etymology is unexplained.[1]
Founding of Feschel
The small village of Feschel lies on the right bank of the Feschelbach, amid pastures that make up most of the municipal territory, in the district of Leuk. The site has been inhabited since the 5th century: graves and various metal objects, notably in bronze, from the 6th century have been found there. The village belonged to the parish of Leuk and had a chapel of St Michael recorded in 1499. Feschel left the parish of Leuk in 1863 and joined that of Guttet in 1924-1925. Feschel is now in the municipality of Guttet-Feschel (merger of 2000).[1][2]
